Solar Heating System
- A solar water heating system can be used as the primary source
for hot water. It can also include a back-up conventional system to meet
heavy or unusual hot water requirements throughout the year. A solar
water heating system can easily meet 100% of the water heating needs in
the summer months.
- Throughout the day, solar control unit compares the temperatures
of the solar collectors and the solar storage tank. When there is enough
warmth in the collectors to heat the fluid in the tank, the control unit
signals the pump to circulate the fluid to the collectors and gather
heat. The sun-heated fluid then circulates through the heat exchanger in
the tank. From there, the solar heated water feeds into the home’s hot
water system as required.
- The solar collector consists of rows of parallel transparent
glass tubes, each containing an absorber and covered with a selective
coating. Sunlight enters the tube, strikes the absorber, and heats the
liquid flowing through the absorber. These collectors are manufactured
with a vacuum between the tubes, which helps them achieve extremely high
temperatures (170-350 degrees F) even in the wintertime.
